Extending Table Folds Into a Simple Backless Wood Bench

Necessity is the mother of invention, and perhaps the godmother of design. Inspired by the small
apartment space shared by himself and his girlfriend, Tom Rossau devised this elegant and simple piece of transforming furniture.
The ‘legs’ of the bench become extended flaps when the object is converted into a coffee table. In turn, lets that fold out from below the seat surface become the taller supports for the table configuration.
One would never really guess that an entire table is hiding inside of the compact bench. Most importantly, though, the design has as few moving parts as possible which makes it more durable as well.
Built for indoor use, one could imagine many applications for this project on city streets as well – urban benches extending for street fairs, folding out to become stations for selling wares or displaying artwork
